im an indian living in philippines and pajero is on its 5th or 6th gen and selling strong.....
I feel on highways hybrids are like any other ice powered car no bump in efficiency. But in city they are very efficient. I have been driving the hycross hybrid. Small hybrid cars should be incentivised by the government only they will make the difference in city traffic

While not an enthusiast's car, the Camry isn't as bad to drive. Isn't getting the limelight it deserves in India. Hopefully the 2024 Camry (expected Dec '24?) will take it a level higher in India.

I think they have already invested in EVs and hybrids are more complex and so far the Japanese have an upper hand.
There is only 1 oem manufacturing Hybrids that Toyota. EVs are the ULTIMATE in efficiency. It's far easier to build a cheap EV, compared to strong hybrid. In the next few years it's going to be amply evident. Toyota is throwing money around to make hybrids more popular, using media and influencers.

Can you guys pls inspire the companies so that they focus more on Strong Hybrids and PHEV since downsizing and Turbo tech will never help the ecology or our wallets. Only PHEV and Strong Hybrids can truly replace the Diesel Power trains for mile munching. We keep seeing Companies like Skoda who sell PHEV Kodiaqs abroad we never got them.
This current generation of GLS is very soft looking.... Missing that aggression and road presence. Range rover or BMW X7 would be my choice if I have that kind of budget.
Last month, i drove xuv 700 and safari facelift for 3,000 kilometers both till Manali(automatic). It is my take away: 1: Safari suspension is amazing, it smoothly glides over bad patches 2: Safari gearbox is better, and fees less jerking while shifting. 3: safari has better road presence, xuv is also beautiful, but safari has an edge. 4: Third row is practical in safari. XUV 700….. 1: Engine is just rocket, very refined, feels like driving BMW. 2: The car is more spacious despite the fact that middle row can slide in safari. 3: Cabin feels more luxurious. 4: Easy to drive vehicle for thousands of kilometers, no tiredness. 5: Zero software glitches encountered during trip. 6: Under thigh support is better in xuv. 7: Adas is very accurate in xuv 700. Note: Please don’t get offended, but xuv in my opinion, is more practical car, and gives a feel driving any foreign made car. Sometimes, hard to believe it was made by Mahindra.

Since the strong hybrids can't be plugged in, it is useless to say that you can drive it in EV mode when in the parking lot or drive a few kilometers on cold start silently. Also the argument about taking it out from the garage (in EV mode - maybe not to disturb the neighbors) make little sense in the wider scheme of things as we all are not driving sports cars with roaring engines. Strong hybrids are not 'specifically' built for this purpose. They are built to assist drivers with fuel efficiency in start-stop/ heavy traffic conditions. Car manufacturers should have instead brought in plug-in hybrids with multiple battery options in India. That would have enabled people to buy cars with the battery pack size which would be sufficient for their daily commute and charge the car at home everyday. And with plug-in hybrids, there's no worry regarding battery anxiety with weekend/long trips. As per a survey in 2019, majority of the urban dwellers, at about 70 percent, across India traveled less than ten kilometers for work and education according to the survey. A plug-in hybrid would have been perfect for them. Also with smaller battery pack, the cost of replacement after 8-10 years would have been drastically low compared to an EV. A good plug-in hybrid would have disrupted the Indian market. Well, that's my opinion. Would love to hear your thoughts.

If the battery has been charged by the ic, you could drive the strong hybrid on ev mode in a parking lot or in traffic or even on start…..why not? Plug in hybrids are more expensive (at least for now and until technology or usage increase)
@@octavian2667 True but that isn't solving any problem. Mild hybrids and strong hybrids are designed to cater to fuel efficiency issue only. There's no logical reason why hybrids should get rebate incentives from the government. EVs in that sense are superior products simply because they are more efficient machines.

Here everyone is talking about small wheels, well as g30 530d owner with low profile tyres i have changed atleast 4 rims in 6 years of ownership due to rim being easily bent over potholes.The new 5 with bigger profile rubber would be prone to less alloy damage.
